A big thanks to Kris Kan and Louise Simpson who were the first employees to volunteer with St Vincent de Paul in Hamilton.
They joined the FullFill community van for its regular visit to the suburbs of Hamilton.
In July we announced our support for St Vincent de Paul in Hamilton by way of sponsoring the milk for their FullFill community van. The community van visits a different part of Hamilton each weeknight, providing sandwiches and milk for more than 500 people each week.
But it’s more than just a donation, with employees having the opportunity to volunteer with St Vincent de Paul, Hamilton, either with the van, in the shop, or in the soup kitchen which operates on Fridays.
Louise said, “I had a really good time volunteering with St Vincent de Paul. Kris and I went with two regular volunteers and a SVDP manager from Waihi.
“We were given the rundown on SVDP, and how to help out with the van. SVDP provide sandwiches, muesli bars, bananas, soup, Milo and cordial for the evenings.
“It was great being there with the other volunteers who knew everyone where we stopped,” she said.
Kris said, “I was in charge of the drinks section, preparing and distributing Milo. Most kids had few cold Milo drinks, before finishing with an orange drink or hot Milo.
“The kids who came to the truck had a bit of fun, had some snacks, and left happy.”
How to get involved
Louise Simpson is co-ordinating the volunteers for St Vincent de Paul in Hamilton. Tetra Pak has committed to providing two volunteers for the van on the first Thursday of each month. Volunteering with the van on other nights, or in the shop or soup kitchen, is by arrangement. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
